I wanted to share with you something cool that was shared with me yesterday. These are the 3 myths that hold you back from focusing on the strenghts that make you a better person. Ready?...here we go...
Myth 1: As you grow, you change
We all have heard the common phrase that talks about leaving childish things behind as we grow up...but this doesn't apply to everything. There are things we carry over from childhood to adult hood. For example...some kids love to be organized...when they grow to adulthood you will often see this carry over and they are very organized as adults in many areas of their lives. Some kids hate to lose to the point that if they see their favorite sports team losing on TV they will run out of the room or cover theyr face to avoid seeng it. These are the people you see who don't like to lose at anything as adults. because of this trait they often aim high. Usually you can see this in reverse also...many of the organized, disciplined adults you see today began this behavior as children
Myth 2: You Should Develop Your Weaknesses
If you spend time focusing on developing your weaknesses, then when are you going to be able to use your strengths?? The Chicago Bulls won many championships, not because they practiced to build up their weaknesses, but because they banded together and every member used their individual strength to build the team overall. They determined what they can do best in the game and did it. This doesn't mean your weaknesses don't deserve attention; they do, but not all your attention. Your strengths are what make you awesome...why not spend more time displaying and using them? By doing so you can work around your weaknesses.
Myth 3: Put Aside Your Strenghts For The Good Of The Team
Again, read myth 2 above. If you work in a team environment and each person puts aside their strenghs...this is a weak team: nobody is using their strenghts to make the team stand out and then nothing really gets done. You don't have to sacrifice for the good of the team...remember there is no I in team.
So, there you have it. I think these concepts are so awesome, and I hope they can affect your views on how to work as a team as they have done for me.
