Come Photowalk with me!

I have signed up for a Photowalk event that will take place on Saturday August 23rd. What is a Photowalk you say???

Basically it is a group of photographers of all ages getting together at a specific location and walking a route taking pictures of whatever they find interesting. Afterwards the group goes to a restaurant and checks out each other's shots. It is a good chance to learn more about the art and get "how did you get that shot" information.

This event will take place in cities around the world and it is free to join. Right now there is one happening in the Chicago area...Glenview to be exact. My plans are to attend this photowalk but if another opens up in the downtown area then I will attend that one instead.

I am inviting everyone who would like to go with me to this photowalk. The lady who is leading it will e-mail me with more information as to where we will meet and the route we will take. This should be a fun event...getting to hang out with photographers and being able to ask any question and seeing how they work. If you are interested, then e-mail me at jdfonline@yahoo.com and let me know so I can show you how to register for it.

Oh Nooo!!!

Last Friday my Macbook's hard drive crashed on me for unexplained reasons. No matter what I tried it would not boot up. I called Apple Support and they advised me that my warranty had expired...BUT as it turns out the hard drive has its own warranty and it is still active!! Last night I took it to the Apple store in Schaumburg and they told me it would take 24 to 72 hours. So here I am anxiously waiting word that my baby has been fixed. This is why I love Apple....they are full of surprises. I had no idea the hard drive had its own warranty!!.

So anyways, all photography is on hold until I get it back...

This is a shame....

An outraged father of three enjoying a day out with his young sons in a U.K. park was branded a "pervert" by other parkgoers after he snapped photos of his own kids, the Daily Mail reported Tuesday.

Gary Crutchley, 39, was photographing his two youngest sons Cory, 7, and Miles, 5, on an inflatable slide when a woman running the slide asked that he stop. When he protested, other families waiting on the slide line also demanded he put the camera away.

One woman accused Crutchley of taking photos of children to put on the Internet and called him a pervert.

The accusations got so out of hand that Crutchley had to get two policemen to confirm he had done nothing wrong.

"What is the world coming to when anybody seen with a camera is assumed to be doing things that they should not?" Crutchley asked in an interview with the Daily Mail. "This parental paranoia is getting completely out of hand. I was so shocked."

'One of the police officers told me that it was just the way society is these days. He agreed with me that it was madness.'

The 39-year-old rubber consultant and father-of-three from Reedswood, Walsall, was with wife Tracey at the Wolverhampton Show when their sons asked to go on an inflatable slide.

He said: 'I started taking photographs of them having a good time. Moments later the woman running the slide told me to stop.

'She told me I could not take pictures of other people's children. I explained that I was only interested in taking photographs of my own children and pointed out that this was taking place in a public park.

'I then showed her the photos I had taken to prove my point:

'Then another woman joined in and said her child was also on the slide and did not want me taking pictures of the youngster. I repeated that the only people being photographed were my own children.

'She then said I could be taking pictures of just any child to put on the internet and called me a pervert.

'The incident took the gloss off the day and left a nasty taste in the mouth.'

He added: 'The two police officers confirmed that I had been perfectly within my rights to take photographs of my own children in the park.'

Mrs Crutchley, 37, a teaching support assistant and qualified nursery nurse said: 'I was annoyed, extremely upset and embarrassed.

'It is very sad when every man with a camera enjoying a Sunday afternoon out in the park with his children is automatically assumed to be a pervert.

'What makes it even more ridiculous is that both my husband and I had police checks last year because I was working as a child minder from our home for a period of time.'

Wolverhampton councillor Malcolm Gwinnett, whose daughter Tracey was running the ride, said: 'Our policy is to ask people taking photographs whether they have children on the slide. If they do, then that is fine. But on this occasion another customer took exception to what the man was doing and an argument developed between those two people that continued without any further involvement from staff on the slide.'

For those of you who enjoy taking pictures please note: In the U.S. you can legally take pictures of anyone anywhere on any public street or property. Too bad some people don't educate themselves before acting out.

Yeeeaaaa Finally!!!!!

Contemporary Christian mainstay Michael W. Smith has a new disc due out on Oct. 28, and it makes his third foray into the lucrative worship-release market.

The album, A New Hallelujah, was recorded live this June at Lakewood Church in Houston, TX. in front of some 12,000-plus fans. At the two-hour event/recording, Smith was joined by a 250-voice choir, fellow Christian market star Israel Houghton, Houston-based worship leader Coalo Zamorano and The African Children’s Choir. Hallelujah marks a whopping 21 releases from Smith, and includes a mix of well-known worship songs and originals penned specifically for the project.

“Since my last world tour a few years ago, I’ve been looking forward to recording a live worship project that reflected something more global than I’ve ever done before," Smith said in a statement. "I had hoped for an evening of worship that reflected the corners of our nation, and the world; I think we captured that."

MichaelWSmith.com will start taking pre-orders on August 1; stay tuned for lots of sneak peeks at the making of this amazing project! And for those of you wondering what the BIG announcement is that is referred to in another article - this is NOT the announcement we are referring to - eventhough this is pretty HUGE!

The Thinker

Thanks goes out to Daniela Medina for this picture. She took it on Sunday as we were waiting to go in for breakfast at camp. I wasn't thinking about the meaning of life or anything that deep. Truth be told, I was wondering how long it would take to charge my iPod for the return trip from camp (see the charging wire in my hand and my iPod next to me?).
